Description
A pressure-sensitive probe tack test fixture using an inverted probe, as described in ASTM D2979, is designed to measure the tack, or instantaneous adhesion, of pressure-sensitive adhesives under controlled contact conditions when used along with a Universal Testing Machine.
In this configuration, the adhesive sample is mounted facing downward on a flat support, while a probe approaches from below makes contact for a specified dwell time, and is then withdrawn at a controlled rate.
The inverted probe geometry helps ensure consistent alignment, gravity-neutral contact, and repeatable separation behavior, which is especially important for low-force tack measurements.
The peak tensile force recorded during probe withdrawal represents the tack value, allowing for comparative evaluation of adhesive formulations, surface treatments, or aging effects in accordance with ASTM D2979 requirements.
